Warren seminar to promote entrepreneurship

"Growing America through Entrepreneurship" will be the topic of a meeting to be held on July 14,2009 at 6 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room of the Warren County Memorial Library. 

The meeting will introduce a new program for laid-off and unemployed citizens in the community. Sponsors of the meeting are the Warren County Memorial Library, the local JobLink Career Center, Vance-Granville Community College/Warren County campus, the Department of Social Services, the Employment Security Commission, Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments and the Department of Economic Development.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, GATE is a rural demonstration project for dislocated workers. North Carolina is one of four participating states.

In North Carolina, the project is being led by the NC Department of Commerce in cooperation with the N.C. Community College System-Small Business Network, the N.C. Employment Security Commission, the N.C. Rural Economic Development Center, North Carolina REAL Enterprises and local JobLink Career Centers. 

Participants will receive special training and assistance, including: 
  • One-on-one business assessment
  • Training to develop a business plan
  • Assistance in completing a business plan
  • Ongoing coaching and counseling
Participants completing the training will be eligible for help in applying for a micro-enterprise loan or other financing for a small business. Alternative opportunities for starting a business will also be discussed at the meeting.

Applicants must be 18 or older and eligible to work in the United States. Qualified applicants will complete an orientation session and scholarship application.
