Warren seminar to promote entrepreneurship Posted on 00//7/7/ STAFF REPORTS WARRENTON "Growing America throughEntrepreneurship" will be the topic of a meeting to be held on July14,2009 at 6 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room of the Warren CountyMemorial Library.
The meeting will introduce a new program for laid-offand unemployed citizens in the community. Sponsors of the meeting arethe Warren County Memorial Library, the local JobLink Career Center,Vance-Granville Community College/Warren County campus, the Departmentof Social Services, the Employment Security Commission, Kerr-TarRegional Council of Governments and the Department of EconomicDevelopment.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, GATE is arural demonstration project for dislocated workers. North Carolina isone of four participating states.
In North Carolina, the project isbeing led by the NC Department of Commerce in cooperation with the N.C.Community College System-Small Business Network, the N.C. EmploymentSecurity Commission, the N.C. Rural Economic Development Center,North Carolina REAL Enterprises and local JobLink Career Centers.
Participants will receive special training and assistance, including:
- One-on-one business assessment
- Training to develop a businessplan
- Assistance in completing a business plan
- Ongoing coachingand counseling
Participants completing the training will be eligiblefor help in applying for a micro-enterprise loan or other financing fora small business. Alternative opportunities for starting a businesswill also be discussed at the meeting.
Applicants must be 18 or olderand eligible to work in the United States. Qualified applicants willcomplete an orientation session and scholarship application.
